Jeremy’s half brother Owen Stanley was also part of this film. He plays a police officer. When Ken meet Owen on the first day of filming, Owen did an impersonation of the late Heath Ledger’s last character ‘The Joker’ from a scene where the Joker tells how he got his permanent smile. The only thing missing, Ken said, “was the Hair and Make Up, other than that, his impression was dead on perfect. He can do just about anyone. I love when he does impressions of Christopher Walken.”

In closing here is what Ken said about Jeremy and filming the thriller: Jeremy loved that this film was shot, almost guerilla style. It was down and dirty, like the way films used to be shot in the beginning. He loved that it was a real grass roots filming and he said that he “feels this is (his) best work yet, even better than Peter Pan”. The world loves Jeremy Sumpter for Peter Pan. This was definitely a different character for him. The first day I saw him on location, he said to me, “I dyed my hair black. I have it in my contract that I don’t ever have to dye my hair, but I loved this part so much, that I went ahead and dyed it”.

Also on hand for the Thursday filming, actress Anna Sophia Robb, who plays Bethany in the film, Lorraine Nicholson, who plays Alana Blanchard in the movie, and Jeremy Sumpter, cast as Byron Blanchard in the flick, took advantage of the break to get into more comfortable attire after huddling in rain gear during the squall. In Crest Point, people go about their day-to-day lives with no sense of urgency and standard stereotypes abound. There’s the high school bully with the popular girlfriend. The single mother raising her son after her husband has died. The detective who’s never cracked a big case. Then there’s STAND (Brad Dourif), the single 59 yr old recluse who contributes to society by offering cremation services from the basement of his funeral home. However, Stand hides a dark secret; he also provides the service of judge and executioner to those he perceives to be social bullies.

JAROD LEARY (Jeremy Sumpter), a bullied and fatherless 17-year-old high school outcast doesn’t even try to fit in with his high school peers. Dressed in black, with his hair and fingernails matching his wardrobe, Jarod draws attention to himself but not in a good way. He’s constantly picked on by the resident jock DAVID VALENTINE (Blake Hood) and doesn’t seem to have much luck with the ladies either. Many decide he’s a freak including cool girls LINDSEY WEAVER (Kate Maher) and Courtney Taylor (Madison Eginton) and although Courtney doesn’t mind, Lindsey has other nasty plans. Lindsey tricks Jarod into kissing her behind at lunch, only for him to get beat up by David and his buddies.

In addition to his troubles at school, home life for Jarod isn’t much better. Living out of a trailer, Jarod has to put up with his mother’s, MARTHA LEARY (Debbon Ayer), constant nagging and her budding new romance, self-righteous immigration attorney RICK WATERS (Sam Ingraffia). Sick of the badgering, Jarod finds after-school work as an apprentice at Stan’s cremation house. The two quickly develop a quirky working relationship and soon Jarod starts to see Stan as a father figure. They bond as outcasts, and as their mutual understanding of each other flourishes their friendship evolves into a strange and dark partnership.

Not long after Jarod begins working at the cremation house, people start to go missing, including Lindsey Weaver. Lindsey and her parents BILL (Daniel Baldwin) and BECKY WEAVER (Staci Keanan) had recently visited Stan’s mortuary seeking his services. When hotshot suburban detective MATT FAIRCHILD (Scott Elrod) starts putting together clues from the seemingly random disappearances, all trails lead him to Stand.

Rick beings to apply pressure on Jarod to accept him as Martha’s boyfriend just as Jarod gets acclimated to life at the cremation house. Rick suggests that Jarod accompany him and Marther to Tuskegee, Alabama for the summer. When Jarod rejects the idea out of hand Rick shows his true colors. After witnessing Rick’s ugly side, Jarod realizes that he needs to protect himself and his mother.

Detective Fairchild, meanwhile, steps up his investigation as more bodies amass. When Rick vanishes from a trip to the local bowling alley, Fairchild closes in on the perpetrator of the crimes. It’s then that Stan must decide if protecting his newfound trainee is worth killing for.
